Old cannon modeled in 3ds max and textured with photoshop, no photos used
I managed to break up mental ray SSS into passes just by isolating each layer weight. On the right is the render straight out of max, and on the left is the tweaked version.
I had a sculpt of thor's head from the default mudbox head, and so I -not wanting to boxmodel today- sketched some topology lines on it and retopologized it in 3ds max 2010 using the graphite modeling tools.
